I wish I were

I've been forever fascinated by Aesop's Fables. The fable of the hard-working Ant and the happy-go-lucky Grasshopper is one of my favorites! Many lessons to be learned from this timeless story.
One of them being, 'Make hay while the sun shines.'
The obstinate child in me argues, 'Then when do I get to enjoy the sunshine?'
Two sides to every coin, isn't there?

I wish I were...

What a pair they are!

The Grasshopper and the Ant,
One so merry,
The other so dreary.

Dancing and prancing,
Eating and singing,
Chirpy as can be,
Mr Grasshopper is he.

Working and slaving,
Sweating and heaving,
Serious as can be,
Mr Ant is he.

Saving for the wintry night,
Storing to save his plight,
So much to worry,
Mr Ant is in a busy scurry.

Songs of spring he sings,
Bough to bough he springs,
So much to delight,
Mr Grasshopper is on a cheery flight.

I wish I were a grasshopper,
Happy let me be,
Live each sunny day,
In my own way.

Winter will come someday.
Harsh she may be,
Kind she may be,
Will she even come?

Till then let me be,
Blissful and carefree,
Leave aside worries of winter,
A winter that may never be.

Ponder this as I leave you to hum alongside this lovely song 💗💗

That's such a sweet story, The ant and the grasshopper. I remember narrating it to my kindergarten kids and inspiring them to follow Mr. Ant. However, there are times when I want to be the grasshopper - just sit and laze around, sing songs, dance to the music, soak in the pleasures of life, for we live just once! :) But, the level-headed Shilpa in me nudges me in the ribs and urges me to get up and get going lest time passes away and I repent about it later! We want it all, don't we, Kala?
Psst... I still feel what's the harm in stealing a few lazy moments every once in while? After all, we are toiling day and night, aren't we? :)
Loved the ditty! <3

Loved the take on the fable, Kala. As you said, even the proverbs and fables can be understood and digested according to our attitude. I prefer, making hay while the sun shines, but I need time to settle down on the hay and bask in the evening sun too :)

I guess we are the Busy Ant on somedays and the carefree gross hopper on others . But if I could I'd love to be Mr Grass hopper :)
